If this sounds good to you, welcome!
Come inside.

When you arrive for your session, we will lend you an apron.

  • We will walk you through the work stations where all the ingredients are laid out in front of you with the right measuring cups and spoons to make the recipe posted at that station.
  • You assemble the ingredients for each of the luscious entrées you have chosen.
  • Modify your meals according to your tastes - if you don't like olives, leave them out. If you like extra onions or garlic, add them. We'll help you package your meals for your refrigerator or freezer.

We will even provide the packaging.

  • Then, when it's time for dinner, you simply follow the easy cooking instructions on the label and you can have dinner ready in about 30 minutes - a healthy, flavorful home cooked meal on the table, created by you with the tastes and preferences of your family in mind, without all the hassle and clean up!
  • And if you do not have the time to visit us and assemble your meal choices, we will assemble the exact recipes for you for a small additional fee. You just need to let us know which meal package you want, and stop by to pick them up when they are ready!
Our goal is to encourage overworked, overscheduled people to sit down to a relaxed family dinner and take the time to enjoy each other's company over good food. Get to know your family again, for at least a few hours each week.

The Prep Kitchen uses the freshest ingredients to create wholesome, healthy foods for your family. Our pastas are always whole grain; we use brown rice; we make our sauces using olive oil. We don't use canned soups or processed cheese products in our recipes. We choose low fat or no fat options when we can do so without sacrificing flavor.

We know how important variety is; we also keep our eye on providing wholesome food. We want dinner to be flavorful and interesting, bringing the whole family back to the table. Our goal is to make good food that we can feel good about - and we want you to feel good about it, too.

Grab & Go Meals

We also have assembled entrées waiting for you in our freezer. For those days when planning dinner is difficult, stop in and pick one up. Each serves 2-3 people for $15. Selection is varied. You're sure to find something just right.

Side Dishes

We have side dishes available to serve with your entrées. Our assortment varies. They travel home in microwaveable containers, and a portion that serves 2-3 people costs $4.

Cookie Dough

Just desserts! We make cookie dough from scratch, using all the best ingredients like we do at home - real butter, real vanilla extract, King Arthur's unbleached flour - blended by hand then wrapped up in one pound logs, ready to be sliced and baked in your kitchen. We keep chocolate chip cookie dough on hand, and we make other varieties as the mood suits us. Each log makes about a dozen and a half scrumptious cookies. Cost: $4 for one log of cookie dough.

The Prep Kitchen Swirl Our Philosophy

Food is an essential part of life. Food doesn't only nourish the body; it nourishes the soul. It is an intricate part of every family gathering and holiday celebration. For better or worse, we all have our own relationships with food. At The Prep Kitchen, we understand that.
Wendy Wren, owner of The Prep Kitchen, has a lifelong love of food and food preparation. Her first job at age 16 was working at a Maine summer camp as a kitchen assistant. She is ServSafe certified and ensures all safe food practices are observed. She has worked in restaurants, with caterers, and as a hotel food and beverage manager. At large family gatherings, you're more likely to find her in the kitchen than the living room. As a working mother, she understands the daily crush of trying to find new and different meals that are easy to fix for a family who wants to eat a good dinner without the time - and energy - to do it properly. When she first heard about this meal preparation concept, she was so intrigued that she drove two and a half hours to the south side of Boston to try it out. After serving the food to her family, she knew it was a great idea and knew she had to bring it to Greater Portland.
